Ysgol Gymraeg Pwll Coch is a multi-cultural, equity driven and ambitious Welsh Medium Primary School for pupils aged 3 - 11 years old located in the Leckwith area of Cardiff, Wales’ Capital City.  Our school has a nursery unit for pupils aged 3/4 along with a Specialist Resource Base for pupils with Complex Learning Needs, Yr Hafan. In 2020, a new Cylch Meithrin Welsh Medium nursery and wrap around provision was established onsite.

Ysgol Gymraeg Pwll Coch was established in 1996. In September 1999 the school moved to a new building and an extension was completed in 2006 for the upper school.

The school’s catchment area is wide and varied and includes the southern and western parts of the city of Cardiff, especially the areas of Leckwith, Riverside and parts of Canton and Pontcanna.

Currently, there are around 500 pupils in the school, including 64 children in the nursery class. There are 18 single age classes. Pupils come from mixed areas, some are economically advantaged, others economically disadvantaged with the remainder neither particularly advantaged nor disadvantaged.

Approximately 20% of pupils come from Welsh-speaking homes where at least one parent speaks Welsh, around 5% from homes where both parents speak Welsh and approximately 80% come from non-Welsh-speaking homes. Also 23% come from a minority ethnic background. Currently around 12% of the pupils receive free school meals; this figure is below national and local averages. At this time, 20% of pupils are on the Additional Learning Needs (ALN) register, and this figure is below national and local averages.
